Fragile State of Democracy

The Threat of Project 2025 and Lessons from History and Today’s world

I live in such a beautiful country that:

  • There is no terrorism
  • There hasn’t been a war for 200 years
  • It’s a superpower in the world
  • It has a strategically advantageous location and vast lands
  • Democracy is well-structured through laws

But citizens are so indifferent that they don’t know what’s happening in neighboring states, yet political fanaticism is at its peak.

Understanding Democracy and Destiny

When discussing democracy, I will explain what I understand from it. After all, I will discuss how universal the saying ‘Geography is destiny’ is through my own life experiences.

Nowadays, a political project called Project 2025 is being discussed. To me, it seems like a ‘regime’ guide.

The Fine Line of Democratic Freedom

If we’re talking about democracy, yes, everyone can think and write. But action is always LIMITED by laws. In a true democracy, you cannot limit thought. But as long as it doesn’t turn into action.

I must honestly say that people don’t read or even think. They impose what they hear from others as if it were their own thoughts. In other words, they become opinionated without having real knowledge.

I, too, make my own comments. But with my pure thoughts. If I am judged by the reader, that is a matter of my freedom of thought.

The Alarming Support for Project 2025

As someone without political opinions or support, I was alarmed when talking with others about Project 2025 to hear that supporters of this project had no information about what the project was about, its content, purpose, or who wrote it, and supported it only because of their political fanaticism.

Historical Parallels: Hitler and Goebbels

Let me explain.

When Hitler wrote Mein Kampf and Goebbels developed their political propaganda philosophy, they never gave any hint that they would dismantle the regime. They laid a foundation under the guise of democracy. When opposed, they became the greatest defenders of democracy at the time. They used the freedoms and rights of democracy to establish their own ideology and regime.

In other words, they used democracy and its benefits as a tool for their own goals and intentions, to achieve their objectives. Just like in the country where I was born and raised.

Project 2025: A Modern Threat but not New

Moreover, the purpose of Project 2025 is the same. They are hiding behind the power that democracy has given them, concealing their own will and masks.

Additionally, the Person running for president ( 45th ) again is still trying to exonerate himself from hundreds of crimes using the benefits of democracy.

Because for them, democracy is merely a playing field.

No ideology or regime is brought about by shouting. It is always hidden in the fine details and subtext.

The Fragility of Democratic Freedom

While I can write this with the freedom of thought granted by democracy, I could be in prison in countries where the regime has changed.

The Path from Democracy to Dictatorship

The processes that countries go through when transitioning from democracy to dictatorship are very simple. You don’t need to look far back; just look at countries ruled by dictators today and see that they followed these steps.. Because a dictatorship consolidates its power by:

First step :

They are taking control of the media. Opposing journalists and thinkers become the most legitimate criminals in prisons. This is the first step to instill fear.

Second Step :

Thet are taking control of the army and armed forces, using the media to justify their actions, and seizing them under various pretexts.

Third Step :

They are using the power of the army and armed forces to control the judiciary and justice system. They amend the constitution to fit their needs.

The purpose of Project 2025 is precisely this. They are using the power granted by democracy to conceal their own will and masks.

Similarities Between Hitler, Goebbels, and Project 2025

  1. Propaganda and Perception Management:

– Hitler and Goebbels: In Nazi Germany, propaganda was heavily used to manage public opinion and perception. Goebbels used simple and memorable slogans to gain public support. Media, radio, theater, and films were used to spread Nazi ideology.

– Project 2025: This project might use similar propaganda techniques to spread a particular political ideology and gain public support. Media and communication tools could be used to disseminate messages supporting the project.

  1. Creating Enemies and Fear Tactics:

– Hitler and Goebbels: The Nazis portrayed Jews and other minorities as enemies, inciting the public against these groups. This was a tactic used to create fear and hatred in society.

– Project 2025: Similarly, certain groups or ideologies might be portrayed as enemies to unite the public against them and use fear tactics to gain support.

  1. Exploiting Democratic Processes:

– Hitler and Goebbels: The Nazis used democratic processes to come to power and then exploited these processes to establish their totalitarian regime. Democratic rights and freedoms were used to promote their ideology and suppress opposition.

– Project 2025: This project may also use democratic processes and freedoms to promote a particular ideology and gain power through similar strategies.

  1. Control of Media and Information:

– Hitler and Goebbels: In Nazi Germany, media and information flow were tightly controlled. Newspapers, radio programs, and other media were used solely to spread Nazi propaganda.

– Project 2025: This project might control media and information flow to ensure the public is exposed only to a particular ideology. This is an effective method for shaping public opinion and suppressing opposition.

  1. Consolidation of Power:

– Hitler and Goebbels: After coming to power, the Nazis took control of the military, judiciary, and other state institutions, establishing a totalitarian regime.

– Project 2025: This project might also work to consolidate power by taking control of key state institutions to reinforce a particular ideology and suppress opposition.

A Changing World and New Threats

The world is changing its shell these days. Yesterday’s writings and technologies have become outdated.

  • Artificial Intelligence and Data Control have become easily accessible.
  • Climate Change
  • Nuclear Weapon Issues

in Conclusion :

The world is no longer just shaped by ballots determined solely by the votes of citizens; it is now heavily influenced by strategic alliances between states. These alliances have the power to affect even the internal political balances and election outcomes of countries. Let’s recall the recent French elections: in the first round, the nationalists emerged victorious, but three months later, the country reverted to the old order. This outcome is closely tied to France being a NATO ally and a significant member of the European Union. This, in fact, is a crucial hint.

What I have written above is a summary of the historical process of democratic collapse in countries where dictators now reign. Moreover, the country where I was born has been the place where I have experienced this process most profoundly.

These are no longer just political or ideological issues. They are matters affecting all our lives. We must be very careful about whom we entrust with power.

This world is not ours; we have borrowed it from our children
